OWC Vs VSTO

I am researching on different options to generate an excel file dynamically
at server side based on a template excel file. SharePoint Excel Services is
not an option for us. I read the book “Professional VSTO 2005†by Alvin
Bruney and other articles.

My understanding is OWC and VSTO are other two options. We have Office 2002
in our organization. Unfortunately none of the two versions of VSTO works
with Office 2002. So OWC is the only option we have now.

Before start programming with OWC, I want to get all of your opinions that
is it worth pushing the management to move to either Office 2003 or 2007 so
that we can use VSTO? Do you think OWC is just fine when compared to VSTO?

PS:
Alvin can you give your insights?

Thanks
Mohan

VSTO ties you to a particular version of Office so you have to manage that
option. OWC is deprecated. It's between a rock and hard place and depends on
your tolerance for risk. I would go with VSTO because it is free with Visual
Studio 2008 and is Microsoft's recommendation for Office programmability.
