Page breaks and linked excel files

J

Jeff M.

Hello,
I am trying to link an excel file into my Word 2002 file
with some difficulties. The excel data is is long,
extending a full 2 8.5x11 pages. Now, when I linked the
excel file in Word, I see all the table data that can fit
onto that first page. But Word doesnt wrap the remaining
data to the next page. The only workaround I can think of
is making N different excel sheets and linking them
individually to each page. This is a pretty poor option
because the Word document is changing continuously. There
must be a way to force Word to break the data onto
multiple pages, but I sure cant figure is out. Thanks

Hi Jeff,

Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to:
1. open the Excel and Word files
2. select as much of the Excel file as will comfortably
fit onto one page
3. copy the selection
4. in the Word file, select Edit|PasteSpecial,
choose "Microsoft Excel WorkSheet Object" and click
the "Paste Link" button, then OK.
5. repeat steps 2-4 until finished.

Alternatively, you could use a LINK field, for which the
syntax would be something like:
{LINK ExcelSheet C:\\My Documents\\SourceFile.XLS
DataSheet!R1C1:R40C10 \a \p}
etc.

In fact, if you use the first method, then format the
pasted object so that it is in line with text, then press
Shift-F9 while it is still selected, you should see a LINK
field that looks something like the above example.

Cheers
