I am using Word XP to format a large document which
includes 100 pages of endnotes. It does not seem possible
to format the layout of the endnote section:
1. The option to format the page is often absent from
the 'file' menu.
2. The page boundaries are different on dfferent pages,
for no apparent reason; I have checked for hidden text,
forced page and section breaks, and the 'short' pages do
not involve widow/orphan issues.
3. An unnecessary carriage return under the header cannot
be removed in the 'header' view. I am aware that one
carriage return must be present - in the rest of the
document I have successfully formatted headers - but this
second carriage return appears below the position
occupied by the header line in the remainder of the
document.
In general: should it be possible to format the endnote
section of my document in the same manner as the rest of
the document, as I have successfully done, including text
(600 pages) and automatically generated table of contents
and index? Any help would be welcome.
