Hello everyone
I'm working in a web site where most of the page were program using word XP. I'd like to cut the link with word, so it will stop open in word when i want to edit them, even from FP 2003

Word documents will always open in Word. You need to convert them to HTML
documents. This is going to be tricky, esp. if they contain graphics. Your
best bet would be to simply create new HTML documents in FrontPage, based on
the Word documents' layout, rather than trying to export the Word documents
using Word, esp. if you are unfamiliar with HTML.

Actually you can get FP to cleanly convert the .doc to a .htm page and avoid all the MSO formatting if you
File Import the Word .doc file into a folder in your Site
In Folder List or Folder View Right click the .doc file and select open with FrontPage (open as Html)
- FrontPage will open the file as a RTF and create a new HTML page
From the Menu select Edit - Select All
Then select Format Remove Formatting to clean out any residual Fonts, etc.
File save and rename the new html page

But I think the user wants to have FP open .htm pages created in MS Word
He needs to set Tools Options General (Startup) and unselect the 2 options
Check If Office... and Check If FP...

Sure, Stephen, but what if the Word document contains embedded images and
other types of embedded objects that need to be handled differently by HTML?
AFAIK, no Office product extyracts the images, puts them into the correct
virtual directory, and substitutes them with image tags in the HTML
document. Typically, Office converters will convert the images to VRML,
which is problematic at best.

Agree if the .doc file has anything but text all bets are off

The best bet is to use Word strictly as a text editor, with no graphics or
anything else. Then after saving your Word file, you can drag it onto an
open page in FP, and it will keep all your text formatting. Then add the
graphics, photos, etc.

If you are going to use Word strictly at a text editor, why waste the time and additional steps when
you could just as easily type directly into a page in FP?

I do it because Word has macros and auto-text. People send texts to me for
posting, and they always require editing work, sometimes a lot, not to
mention a large number of foreign words. I tried it in FP, but it's easier
and smoother in Word. If I just have to type in a few lines, I do it in FP,
but if it's a long text with lots of corrections needed, it's easier in
Word.

Wally,

I read your message as using Word to create your text (new content), not to modify text that has
been submitted to you as a Word Document.
