Page margin markers

I'm using Word 2003 in Windows Vista....when I open a new document, I'm
seeing margin markers. They also show up when I print. I've looked
everywhere to turn those off. I cannot locate my normal.dot document which is
where I'm guessing this code was somehow entered.
How do I turn them off?

mystifyingly, for some users they do.
