Page number removal

Anthony

I added page numbers to my document and decided to change
where they appeared on the document. Doing that I ended
up having the page number appear where I originally put it
and appear at the second place I put it. My problem is
that I can't remove the original placement(top right of
page) I'm running Office98. Does anyone know how to
remove the page number all together cause I don't want to
use liquid paper to remove the unwanted page numbers? It
kind of defeats the purpose of having a computer.. Any
help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

Hi, Anthony,

I assume you used Word's half-witted Insert > Page Number command.
That puts the number into a frame, which is anchored in the header
area (for top placement). This sometimes causes a problem when folks
delete the number field but fail to delete the frame.

You should be able to select and delete the number if you double-click
it. Instructions for removing the frame are at
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/UnaccountablyIndented.htm.

Assuming that you used Insert->Page Numbers when you initially added
the pagination, and that you chose "Top of Page (Header)", you should
be able to delete them in Print Layout View by double-clicking in the
area above the top margin of the page (or select View->Header and
Footer), Select All (Ctrl+A) then Delete. Close the "Header and
Footer" Toolbar. You will be returned to the body of your document -
and the numbers should be gone.

I say *should* because this works in Word 2000, and IIRC the steps are
the same in earlier versions - although access to the "Header and
Footer" may be via the Insert menu, rather than View.
