Page Number

I am using Office 97 Pro under Windows XP. While using
Word, I am unable to remove the page number from my
document. I selected 'Page Number' from the 'Insert Pull
Down Menu'. Using 'Page Number' this way does not give me
an option to remove it. Once it is there, I can only
modify its position. This prevents me from using the
Footer option for a better Page Number option. Copying
my document to an empty form did not get rid of the page
number.

Fred,

Doubleclick the number (opens the header and footer
view). Select the number and its associated frame
(hassmarked box) and press delete.

Using Insert>Page alwasy results in the associated frame
which might prove troublesome to future users of your
document. You can put the page number anywhere by simply
using a PAGE field. Type PAGE, select it, press CTRL+F9,
right click and press update field.
