Is there a way to display the page number of the current page in the status
bar of Word 2002?

The status bar does display the current page number (subject to any
adjustments you may have made) as "Page nnn" at the left hand end.

It also displays the absolute page number and total number of pages as
"n/nn" after the Section number just right of the adjusted page number as
above.

On the View menu, click Normal. On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the General tab. Check the "Background repagination" option, and
click OK.
