page number

i need to put page numbers upper right for all pages with heading1, and
bottom center for everything else.

though i toggle same as previous according to my need, word is not
cooperating. if page no. in header for heading1, then it goes on
subsequent pages in spite of turning off same as previous. then, if i
delete page no on subsequent pages, page no in heading1 page disappears.

Any help???

forgot to mention....i tried numbering with two different
combinations...but both seemed to work poorly. I tried using "page break
before" for all heading1's and I also tried using manual entries of a
section page break? Does this have any relavance?

Insert a Next Page section break before each Heading 1. Then format
each section to have a "Different first page" (found on the Layout tab
of File>Page Setup). Use View>Header and Footer to activate the header
and footer area, and insert page numbers as required by using the
Insert Page Number button on the Header/Footer toolbar. You don't have
to unlink headers (footers), since the linkage works separately for
each type of header (footer).

Paging Stefan Blom:

I was pressed to make a deadline for a paper and could not find out
how to change page numbering from footer to header in the way you
described. Your post saved me from an enormous penalty and reduced my
frustration level down to a category where the universe is once again
a mellow place in which to domicile. :)

THANK YOU!!
