Page numbering for individual sections

G

Gill

Hi,

I hv e a document with a number of sections in it but each section requires
its own 'page of pages' numbering starting at page 1 and ending in the last
page number for that section only.

Can someone help me find a way around the 'pages' number being the total
number of pages in the document?

Im using office 2007 and saving in 2003 compatability.

kind regards

I still can't get the numbering to work, even though I clearly have the
following:
Section 1--no numbering; that part is okay.
Section 2--roman. Previous/Next Section is turned off. The first page in
section 1 is ii and I cannot get it to read as "i" no matter how many times I
(a) make sure I have sections, (2) select page number start at 1 (3) use
SECTIONPAGES instead of PAGE, (4) Use Field Codes instead, etc.

HELP! Please.

Hi Writer0101,

Try:
.. Press Ctrl-F9 to create a pair of field braces (ie '{}')
.. Type 'SECTIONPAGES \* Roman' between the field braces so that you end up with '{SECTIONPAGES \* Roman}'
.. Select the field and press F9 to update it.

Your problem is in using SectionPages instead of Page. The advice to use
SectionPages (instead of NumPages) has to do with Page X of Y. Just use the
Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar to insert an
ordinary PAGE field. FWIW, (4) makes no sense, since both SectionPages and
Page are field codes.

Suzanne,

I wish it was that easy since I had already tried that several times. The
solution was for a colleague to open the document in Word 2003 where he
solved the numbering problem. Word still insisted on putting in 2 blank pages
when we only wanted one to force the Contents to ge on the right page, but,
since we are deliverying a PDF, I deleted the second blank page (which had no
page number on it) and we are good to go, although no wiser as to what is
going on.

Hi Writer0101,

If it didn't work, you didn't follow the instructions correctly.
