Page Numbering in Word 2007 and the design gallery

Here are the steps I'm using to insert a page number in the top right-hand
corner of the page and remove the page number from the first page:

1. From the Insert tab, Header & Footer group, click Page Number.
2. Click Top of Page (or Bottom of Page or Page Margins depending on the
desired position for the page number).
3. Click Plain Number 3 to position the page number in the top right-hand
corner of the page or click the desired page numbering design from the
gallery of designs.
4. A Header & Footer Tools, Design tab appears. Check Different First Page,
and double-click anywhere outside of the First Page Header area and inside
the document area to close the Design tab. Note that the first page header is
blank and the second page now has a page number.

I have two questions:
Is there an easier way to insert a page number?
A friend of mine does not have the design gallery showing in step 3. Word
Help says to do this to resolve the issuse, but could it be that virus
sofware or security settings are interfering the the display of the gallery?

If you don't see any built-in header and footer designs in the gallery,
building blocks add-ins may be unavailable. To make sure built-in designs
appear in all of the Microsoft Office Word 2007 building block galleries, do
the following:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
Click Add-Ins.
In the Manage list, select Disabled Items, and then click Go.
Click Building Blocks.dotx, and click Enable.
Restart Word.

I was also having a problem with page numbers and not seeing the gallery.
When I followed the Help instructions:

Click the Microsoft Office Button , and then click Word Options.
Click Add-Ins.
In the Manage list, select Disabled Items, and then click Go.
Click Building Blocks.dotx, and click Enable.

there was nothing to enable.

Because I had been running the Beta version of Office 2007 (even though I
uninstalled it prior to installing the full version) I had to do the
following to fix the page numbering issue:

go to Start run (windows XP)
or
The 'Windows' key +R
and type the following: %appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks

you will have a folder 1033 displayed. Within this folder is a file called
Building Blocks.dotx. Delete this file. it will be built correctly the next
time you start up Word 2007.
