Page Numbering Mess

Word 2000
I have a document that has 5 pages. I inserted the page numbers into the
footer and something is not right. Page 1 is page 2 and page 2 is page 2.
Page 3 is 3, page 4 is 4 and page 5 is 5. Why is my page 1, page 2? Why
would this be happening?

It sounds like you need to go into your header (footer?) and hit the Format
Page numbering button on the header/footer toolbar. Tell it to "continue
from previous" instead of "start at 2..." or whatever is chosen.
