Page Numbering with Section Breaks

I am working on a document which contains normal text on
portrait oriented pages and tables on landscape oriented
pages. However, when this document is finished, it will
be collated so that the landscape pages are stacked as
portrait pages. In other words, when reading the
document (a book), you would have to turn the book each
time you came to a table (landscape) page in order to
read it horizontally. Therefore, is there a way to make
the page numbers always appear at the top or bottom of
the page - regardless of whether the page is in landscape
orientation - as in portrait orientation? In other
words, the numbers would always be in the header or
footer area of the shorter side (8.5) of the page. Does
that make sense? Thanks.
