Page numbers in Footers

I am having a problem getting Word 2003 to properly
show/print the correct number of pages in a document. I
am properly inserting the field for NumPages, but it
always overstates the actual number. For example, the
status bar clearly indicates 2/2, but when the document is
printed, I get 2 of 3 pages. This does not happen if I
put the page numbers in the body of the document, and not
the footer.

Could there be some extra empty paragraphs in your footer? View | Footer
and click ¶ on the toolbar to see nonprinting characters.

What does Print Preview show you?

How many pages actually print?

There is no extra formatting in the footer that would be
getting in the way. The template is usually just a two
page document, but it can be up to three or four.
Otherwise I would have hard-coded it.

Preview shows 2 pages, and only 2 pages print. But the
NUMPAGES field thinks there are 3 pages.

Conceivably a corrupt template? Does this happen with any other documents?
It would be good to test it on a different printer as well, in case it is a
corrupted printer driver confusing it.

You don't have Print set to include doc properties or anything, do you?

Possible Workarounds:
I wonder if printing in reverse order would help, that fixes a different
NUMPAGES problem.

In a single section document, a SECTIONPAGES field should have the same
result as NUMPAGES.

Sorry not to be of more help, perhaps someone else will have seen this
problem before and have more to offer.
