Page numbers on endnote pages in roman numerals help!

I am trying to format my dissertation, which has a long and somewhat
complicated format, including introductory pages with roman numerals,
four chapters with continuous arabic page numbering and about twenty
pages of endnotes. I have all the page numbers working except for the
endnote pages (they only have endnotes on them), which are stuck on
roman numerals and I cannot figure out how to change them. When I do
"insert footnote/endnote" it suggests that it is already set on
arabic, moving the cursor to the pages that are only endnotes (no
regular text) makes it impossible to insert the page numbers (it is
greyed out on the menu). Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

I'm doing my dissertation too. Have you tried different "sections?" I have one for the introductory pages (in roman numerals) and one for the main section (regular numbers, restarted at 1). Seems like you could insert a third section for just the endnotes? I hope you're using EndNote, by the way, for your references!
