Page numbers with different sections

maeam

I have created a template that has a cover, blank page, TOC, blank pag
and then the document begins. In the TOC, I have created a sectio
break so that I can ensure that blank page after the TOC.

However, when the document begins (which is the fifth page), my foote
starts wtih page 5. I change this in the numbering properties to "star
with number 1." When I make that change, the numbering start
correctly, but that blank page after the TOC disappears. I need tha
blank page.

Any suggestions? I'm using Word 2000 on Win XP.

Thank

Hi maeam;

Just to make sure we are understanding your situation:

When you say "Blank Page" did you do something to add a blank page? Like a
page break? How did you get the 2 blank pages?

What kind of section break did you create? Next page? Odd?

Change one of the page layout settings 'different odd and even' or 'mirror
margins'. Word will then assume double-sided printing (odd = right-hand
page) and understand that the fourth blank page of the document is needed to
start the next section at page 1 on an right-hand page.

If neither setting is made, Word assumes single-sided printing, and treats
'odd' literally. When you make the page number 1, the page is odd, so no
blank backing page is added before it.

This worked, but not to satisfaction. I changed the page layout setting
to different odd and even. This kept that fourth page blank. However,
it did not display the header and footer on even pages. Those went
away.

(To get the blank page after the TOC, I added a section break -- odd
page.)

Hi maeam,

That is the nature of the beast! Even pages automatically inserted by the
odd section break out are always blank, like most publication.

If you insist on having footers and headers on otherwise empty pages, and go
against the grain! ;-) , then have a look here:

The different odd and even option gives you different odd and even headers
and footers - the odd one picks up any existing header and footer. You need
to copy and paste this into the even header and footers (in Header and
Footer view).
