Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I am working on my dissertation. I need to use Roman numerals in the footer for the preliminary pages and then Arabic numbers in the header for the body of the paper. I have created a section break between the sections and have been able to use the correct numbers in each section; however, I can not put the first section in the footer and the second section in the header. They both go into either the header or footer. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Hi,

place our cursor in the section in which you need to make the
modifications. Make sure the Formatting Palette is shown; if it isn't,
click on View>Formatting Palette. Then place your cursor into either the
header or the footer (it doesn't matter if you do this on the first
page, or the third, but since you need to add a page number to the first
page, too, it seems the logical place to begin). You should notice that
a new section has just appeared in the Formatting Palette, called Header
and Footer. Activate the option "Different First Page". If you now place
a page number in the header or footer of the first page, it will not

the header or footer on any of the following pages, it will not appear
