Page of SectionPages

I am on an assignment that requires page numbering to restart for each section.

Theoretically I know how to do this but cannot get it to work. Works for
first section.... this is if I turn off the "Show/Hide" before printing.
Cannot get it to work for all the sections. What further complicates the
matter is that each field is in a text box.

Their "template" uses the "Numpages" field which I know is incorrect.

I tried so many different things. There are no manual page breaks in doc
but some styles do have "Keep with Next" and/or "Keep Lines Together"
paragraph attributes. Tried for experimental purposes turning this off on
certain pages but cannot get any consistent results.

This is Word 2003.

Any help would be appreciated.

It would help if you described HOW it's not working for you...

You need to use the SectionPages field instead of the NumPages field to get the
total number of pages in a section.

Hey Cindy

Remember me... Joan in New York (formerly MVP with the 6 chihuahuas!)

I am using the SectionPages Field. The original template has the Numpages
field which leads me to believe that these docs were done individually.
However, no one her knows.

The numbering for the first section is perfect. For the second it is just
totally off. IOW, I get Page 5 of 4, etc. etc. One time it was fine until
the last page

I wiped out all the manual apge breaks as I thought that could be one
possibility

Thanks

Joan

I've seen the reverse, I think, where the NumPages or SectionPages was 1
more than the final page number; this was caused by an Odd Page section
break; it seems that Word counts the blank even page as the first page of
the following section instead of the last page of the preceding one (a bug
IMO).

Hi Suzanne
I am trying to tell my supervisor on the project that this is somewhat of a
"Known Issue". I would never say the word "BUG".. heaven forbid
There are only Next page Section Breaks in this doc which is why I am
totally preplexed.
Thanks.

If you can send a portion of the misbehaving doc, I'll take a look at it.

Thanks Suzanne for your kind offer

However, being it is a "work" doc I don't think they would be happy if I
sent it out. Also I don't think one section would do any good

BUT... I think it is something to do with the Template which I happen to
have here at home as every single doc that is attached to this lovely
Template has the same issue

I am so curious. Usually I can figure anything out "eventually"

Where can I send it. I know they don't go for attachments here

I've experimented with one possible problem (fields in text boxes) and
returned the doc to you with revisions.
