page properties question

I use FrontPage to create family site (www.cvrennaker.com)
and my computer club site (www.smvcc.net). All of suden
while viewing the smvcc.net site stored on my computer I
cannot start a blank page by clicking the "new page" icon
on the tool bar that has the BACKGROUND tab when
rightclicking the new page and choosing PAGE PROPERTIES.

If I start a new site, stored on my computer, the NEW
PAGES all have the BACKGROUND tab when right clicking the
new page and choosing PAGE PROPERTIES.

I must have done something to the folder that holds my web
site on my computer.

After reading your reply about Themes I opened FrontPage,
loaded my site from my computer. In the FORMAT/THEME
window the statement is there that no themes have been
set. I have about around 20 html pages, all of them show
the background options in page properties, but not in a
new page. It is really evident when the new page comes up
there are two horizontal dotted lines almost like a table
is inserted but cannot get table properties. If I open
FrontPage as if to a new site, the new pages come up
correctly, very baffling.

In the site w/ the problems
What happens if you start a new page using one of the template pages?
- or make a copy of an existing page (that allows background settings)
When you start a new page (using new page button) what does the html/code view source look like

Thanks for your reply. In FrontPage I opened my site
www.smvcc.net on my computer. With the index.html page in
view I click File/New Page or web. I tried "blank
page", "normal page", "Feedback Form", then under PAGE
TEMPLATES I tried "confirmation form", under FRAMES PAGES
I tried "Banner and Contents" then selected NEW PAGE. All
trys produced a new page that did not have BACKGROUND as
an option tab.
For your Information:
The hosting network for this site is Lunarpages.com. They
use Linux servers. Because of how they set their system up
I cannot use FrontPages "Publish web" without getting a
message right away that my index.html page requires
frontpage extensions, yet my control panel says that
extensions are included. This requires me to modify my
index page by updating the hit counter by opening that
page directly in FrontPage, update the hit counter and
save it on the server to get the counter to work. Is this
contributing to this problem?

According to http://www.smvcc.net/_vti_inf.html your site is running the FP 2002 SE

When you open or publish your site in FP always use http://www.smvcc.net/ as the location
- don't include the file name

You don't need a page open (index.html) when you create new pages

Since you have tried various templates, it does not sound like your template files are corrupt

Since the problem is only on your server hosted account, have them check the permissions
(list of available rights) assigned to you
- sounds like you have restricted rights
You should be set up at least as an advanced author or administrator
Try looking at the FP SE server settings using Tools Server Admin (if they allow you access)

Thanks again for your reply,

The way your reply reads is that I am trying to do this on
the server, I am not, I am disconnected from the outside
world, doing this only from my computer where my copy of
each of my sites is stored in "Documents &
Settings/Charles V. Rennaker/My Documents/My webs/My
web/My web2/My web3/My web4/ etc. I am logged onto Windows
2000 as administrator. One of my webs "My web4" was built
for a hosting service using Windows 2000 servers, the
other My Web (no number) was built for a Linux server. I
don't have this problem with my web4 which is published on
the windows server, but I do either one without being
connected to the Internet so am not using anything from
the server only what is on my computer. When complete with
a given update I connect the high speed cable, click
file/publish and when completed I check the site by
logging in with IE6.

Thanks again for your reply.

After reading your message I closed this area, opened
FrontPage and logged onto my site on the server, clicked
on the index.html page when up I clicked the new page tool
on the tool bar, the new page did not have the background
option tab. I also host with another hosting network
called acomhosting.com which uses a Windows server not a
Unix based one. Clicking the new page tool on the tool bar
opened a new page with background as one of the tabs,
however opening that site from my computer also created a
new page WITH the background tab.

Thanks again for all your help.

The problem has been solved. You illuded to it early on in
our conversations however the place you suggested to check
out was a bit different. I was trying to solve another
problem with a form when I discovered an entry in CUSTOM
tab under page properties that had an entry in the "user
variable section" that refered to a THEME, I removed it
now I have the background tab in all new pages. I have no
Idea how that entry got there, am sure it was something
that I did but was not aware of it. If you had not
mentioned that to me I would not have removed it. So
thanks for your help.

| Thanks for your reply. In FrontPage I opened my site
| www.smvcc.net on my computer. With the index.html page
in
| view I click File/New Page or web. I tried "blank
| page", "normal page", "Feedback Form", then under PAGE
| TEMPLATES I tried "confirmation form", under FRAMES
PAGES
| I tried "Banner and Contents" then selected NEW PAGE.
All
| trys produced a new page that did not have BACKGROUND as
| an option tab.
| For your Information:
| The hosting network for this site is Lunarpages.com.
They
| use Linux servers. Because of how they set their system
up
| I cannot use FrontPages "Publish web" without getting a
| message right away that my index.html page requires
| frontpage extensions, yet my control panel says that
| extensions are included. This requires me to modify my
| index page by updating the hit counter by opening that
| page directly in FrontPage, update the hit counter and
| save it on the server to get the counter to work. Is
this
| contributing to this problem?
