Page rejects table?!?

(Word2000 with Win2000)

Text was inserted above a table, pushing far enough down the page to cause
it to break across the page. No problem - except the bottom rows skipped an
entire page! There is a whole blank page between the top of the table and
the bottom rows, like that page just rejects a table! There are no page
breaks, section breaks, or table breaks on that page, nor any drawing
objects or graphics. Just text above the table, text after the table - and
a blank page in the middle!

Any suggestions?

Make sure that the top row of the table is not formatted as "Page break
before." Or it could be that every row in the table is formatted as "Keep
with next."
