Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) I am running Word 12.2.4 on OSX 10.5.8.

when I open a new doc I get an A3 page but page setup and doc format tell me it is A4 so I cannot change it

when I print it on an A4 printer I am asked to auto-fix the margins

thanks for trying to help - unfortunatley; it didn't
Sounds like it may be a corrupt Preferences file. Follow the directions here

Well, that suggests that it might be a faulty Normal template, but it may be
external to Word. Word takes most of its printing specs from the printer
driver. What happens if you click Preview in the Print dialog? Does it
persist after a restart of your Mac?

Check the printer mfr's web site for a driver update.

You can also try testing Normal by following the instructions here:

http://word.mvps.org/mac/MacWordNormal.html

If none of that makes a difference I'd suggest removing/installing the
printer... The Normal template & Word's preference file are the only
Word-related elements that would have an influence. With new ones it pretty
much rules out the program. Just make sure that Word is not running when you
do a removal/renaming of Normal or prefs... Neither works if it it running.
