pages number same as page number

In word 2000, windows ME, I am trying to print a 3 page
document. In the footer, I placed PAGE (page #) of (number
of pages) where the previous parentheses are the fields
taken from the header/footer toolbar. Instead of Page 1 of
3, Page 2 of 3 and Page 3 of 3, (which shows up correctly
on screen and in print preview) it prints as Page 1 of 1,
Page 2 of 2 and Page 3 of 3 (well, at least one is
correct ).
How can I make it print correctly? It is not the
printer/driver because I tried printing to a different
printer and the same error occured.
Perhaps it is a known bug???
