pale yellow shade on left side

I'm VERY new to site building. I would like to know if there is a way to
start off with an all white page instead of the 3/4 white 1/4 left pale
yellow. Also, is it possible to layer in frontpage? Such as background color
then pic then text?

Yes, just use a white page background.
Learn the basics before you start messing with "layers", or you will get
very frustrated.

As far as HTML allows it, this "layering" is automatic.
Set the background colour, set background image (which will completely
cover the background colour), write your text.
A web page editor is NOT a graphics program, nor is it a Word Processor,
the requirements for the web are different.
