Pantone Solid vs Process

Raphael Goubet

Hi,

What's the difference between Pantone Solid and Pantone Process, as
they appear in the Pantone color selection palette?

Thanks!

Raph,

I'm not a color guru but from my understanding, a Pantone color is a
special ink that is created using specific amounts of different dyes.
Coca-Cola red will look the same regardless what press it is printed on.
(It is not unlike a spot color.) However, most (if not all) Pantone
colors have a CMYK equivalent that ideally results in the same color -
if the pressman runs all the checks. But that means that four different
inks are involved instead of one, greatly increasing the likelihood the
result is not a perfect match.
