Spot Color, Word Art, Autoshapes - Problems with Graphic Fills

S

Stuart F.

I designed a project using PUBLISHER 2002. It came out
great. However, when I save for pre-press SPOT COLOR
(PANTONE), all the WORD ART graphics, and AUTOSHAPES turn
GREY. The graphics that turn grey were all FILLED with a
cloud graphic(.bmp) that was included with the program. I
recolored the graphic using the FORMAT PICTURE>RECOLOR
option to the PANTONE as I was advised by my printer. I
also selected COLOR PRINTING>SPOT COLOR prior to saving.
I also tried it by setting COLOR PRINTING>SPOT COLOR and
selecting the PANTONE prior to designing the document. I
am about to go to press, and need the fill to appear in
the PANTONE !! The only way I can get the WordArt and
Autoshapes to fill in color, is with a solid PANTONE
color, and not with a graphic. The problem is that I lose
the transparency effect, the PANTONE color, and the
graphic fill when I save for SPOT COLOR (PANTONE). Help !
Thanks.

Firstly, not having access to the file makes it impossible to answer your
question properly.

Secondly, your printer should be able to change what is needed easily in
their workflow process.

WordArt is not without its issues. You will more than likely have better
success by copying the WordArt to the clipboard, then going menu Edit >
Paste Special and paste the WordArt as a picture.

Just Try it ! Start with a blank document. Make a square
autoshape. Fill with a graphic. Recolor the filled
graphic to a Pantone color. Then go to Tools>color
printing>commercial printing. Select Spot color. Then
you too will see that the graphic fill turns GREY !

Stuart I don't doubt you, but having been around Publisher so long, I would
not even attempt to try that and expect it to work correctly. Anything to
do with Escher art tools built into Publisher is flawed in some way or
another, and will cause pain at some stage. I prefer to stay well away from the flawed Escher tools.

Over 1 hour later - like I have nothing better to do!!!
Stuart despite my knocking the Escher tools, and for all the right reasons, I cannot reproduce your issue on Publisher 2002 or 2003. I would suggest it is because you did not have a Postscript printer driver selected. I cannot think of any other possible reason for this issue.

Later again!!!
Some of the issues I could easily come up with in the commercial printing tools with Publisher 2002 appear to have been fixed in Pub2003.
