Paper storage versions electronic in Office 2003

I receive alot of emails and wondered what people generaly tend to do to
keep them organized and easily accessable.

Do most people convert emails to word documents and then put them in a
folder? Or do you people print them off and convert them to real paper
files? It does seem paper files are actually easier to handle/store and
retrieve than emails.

Any thoughts? I'm trying to get my computer organized and would appreciate
any tips.

I use folders under Outlook - I rarely print anything unless I need it for a
meeting and I cannot bring my laptop, for security reasons. Using rules,
you can filter incoming mail to folders automatically, delete items
automatically, filter out spam, etc.

Hiya Milly,

But dont you find that it is more time consuming to retrive the email and
find the exact information you want when compared to those same files/pages
printed and stored in a ring binder?

It sounds silly but truly and honestly what would you say to that. Please
give a very unbiased viewpoint. Is it not faster and more efficient to store
it on a ring binder, and aslo is it not easier on the eye to read.

Egads no!!! Emphatically no. Using Outlook and rules, I filter mails
relating to projects automatically to a folder named for that project. When
I need to find a mail from that project folder, I use Find or Advanced Find.
It finds it in about 3 seconds.

Using the paper method, I would need to print the mail, 3 hole punch it,
decide where it belongs, and have absolutely no way of finding it using any
automated search method.

Try Outlook 2003 Search Folders and honestly report back that a paper based
system is better.
