paragraph markers following footnote separation line

Hallo,
in a document I received of a third party, I found footnotes with a
separation line that's followed with a number of paragraph markers. The
separation line and the paragraph markers are all disabled. When I activate
the footer text they are enabled but I can still not delete the paragraph
markers. Is there a solution for this.
I use Windows XP, with Word 2003 SP1

Note that Word will not let you delete the para mark at the end of a note,
but often you can backspace away stuff in notes even when you can't select
and delete.

That the extra para marks show up enabled when you view footnotes suggests
they're not part of the separator... they may be incorrectly deleted
footnotes, in which case you would have to find the marker in the text....or
conceivably the third party got confused and typed those in.

If the extra para marks are stuck with the separation line, you can edit
that by switching into Normal view, clicking View Footnotes, and at the top
of the Footnote pane that will appear, you will see a dropdown menu. Set
that menu to Footnote Separator, and that will let you edit, and hopefully,
delete the extra para marks following the line.

Thanks Dayo,
going to normal mode and making the selection in the footnote menu did the
trick!
