paragraph marking

I am running Office 2003 and XP home. I have the Japanese IME loaded and the paragraph marking switch will not remove the paragraph markings from the document. All other WORD functions appear to be operating normally. I have cold booted with no effect.

Swimmer,

Tools>Options>View>Formatting marks. Is paragraphs marks checked? The
toggle icon toggles "all" on and off. If any of the others are "checked"
they stay displayed independent fo the toggle.
