Paragraph numbering

A

Al Hechinger

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I have an existing document, over fifty pages long, into
which I would like to insert paragraph numbers. There
are numerous headings which I do not wish to have
numbered- just the paragraphs below.

IF this can not be done I would appreciate being
instructed in, at least, how this can be done while the
doucment is being created.

Thanks alot for the assitance.

I have tried all help information and can't find anything
about this- lots on line numbers, but not paragraph
numbers. The only thing I could find told how to create
lists by starting with 1, etc., and hitting space bar or
tab and then the next paragraph would be consequitively
numbered. Unfortunately this stops when I put in another
title.

Frustrating.

See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html and note
that a paragraph does not have to be numbered to be part of an
outline-numbered list. It can have the numbering set to "(none)" and still
be used to restart numbering at a lower level.

I hope I understood your question. The only thing I
could suggest, but I might work, would be to give the
paragraphs you want numbered a single heading style.
Give the others a different style. This is basically the
same thing as having paragraphs numbered in outline,
where some paragraphs aren't specially marked. Make sure
that you include in the TOC set up ONLY the heading style
that you want to appear in the Table of Contents. ...
Does this help?
