paragraph symbols show up when composing emails

Suddenly, inexplicably, every time I open up a new email to send/compose, the
symbol for PARAGRAPH shows up in my emails - this is a symbol I've seen
before when working in a Word document, but I know how to get rid of them.
How can I make this stop? HELP! My emails are a frikkin mess! Thanks. :)

Cathie,
If you are using MS Word as your editor, then there should be a paragraph
symbol in the tool bar at the top of the page. Simple click on it and your
problem should go away. If you don't see the paragraph tool there, at the end
of the bar is a down arrow and when you click on that you can add or
customize the bar. Add the tool and then click on it.

Hey, Paul, thanks for trying to help, but I am in Outlook MAIL when this
happens, not in Word. Not only do paragraph symbols show up when composing
mail, but also there's a DOT between each word. Can you help me with this?
Thanks again!!

Cathie,

If you are using Outlook as your editor, then I will have to switch to that
and play around a little. I use word as my editor so sending email is like
creating a word doc. Back later............

Cathie,

I did switch and I couldn't find what we are looking for. All I can suggest
is to go to tools/options/ mail format (tab) and check the two boxes that use
Word as the editor. Click on apply & OK. Close everything and then open an
email and click on the paragraph symbol.

If you don't want to use Word as the editor, click on tools/options.mail
format, uncheck the two boxes then click on apply and OK. That will put you
back where you were.

THANK YOU PAUL - may I call you GOD? Truly, you solved my issue. FYI, I was
already using Outlook as my editor - both boxes you refer to were checked. I
suppose that's the preferred editor? Well, there was no paragraph symbol
anywhere on my screen, so I couldn't click on it. I opened Word, to see if I
could see a paragraph symbol on the screen while in Word, but there was no
paragraph symbol in Word, either. So I did the 2nd thing you recommended,
which was uncheck the 2 boxes. You were right - and that's why you are God -
when I compose an email now, there are no symbols in my emails.

However, am I going to lose something else/some features/etc., as a
resulting of unchecking the 2 boxes and no longer using Outlook as an editor?
If you could let me know, I'd appreciate it very much, as I don't want to
screw myself up in other ways. THANKS, PAUL!! Cathie

FWIW, simply hitting Control-Shift-8 will make them go away without having
to dive through menus and changing editor properties.

Thanks so much! I've changed my settings back to what they were. I
appreciate your great help, and now you are God to me, as well. ::)) Thanks
so much!!

1. They are only a frikkin mess on your screen. :) The recipient doesn't
see them, unless s/he also has show marks turned on
2. Ctrl+Shift+8 is the easiest method; you can also turn it off (or on) in
options.

Hi Diane. I did know that they markups didn't go through to others, but
thanks for pointing that out. The fact is, the markups in my own email was a
nightmare - I didn't know how it happened and it was very distracting and I
didn't need the markups or want them to continue, and I'm so glad that this
discussion group was able to help me! Thanks so much to all.
