IMy company was just acquired and my laptop re-imaged. In the move I
lost the ability to have outlook contacts automatically format the
phone number field (US only). Previouly I could enter 1234567890 and
it would automatically convert to (123) 456-7890 on exiting the field.
Can anyone help?

Set the dialing properties and country code in Control Panel.

My problem is when saving a phone number in Contacts that it automatically
puts a + sign in front of the number. I have tried everything including
unchecking the Automatically add country code to local numbers. I have 480
contact with 2 to 4 numbers in each one and when I sync with my phone the +
sign prevents me from dialing long distance. Any ideas or suggests would be
great. Thanks.

This is correct behavior.

Your phone should be able to handle it. However, see if this helps:

I don't think it's a phone issue as much as a carrier issue. When
they see the + sign they ignore the next digit. However that does
not explain why when I enter a number into Outlook contacts I can't
find a way so that the + sign does not get added. I've checked with
other and their contact list does not automatically insert the +
sign so why can't a change it?

Outlook uses your modem and dialing properties to format the phone number.
As I understand it, if you have set your local calling information
correctly, then Outlook will include the plus.

Did you try the tool I cited?

I downloaded it and tried unsuccessfully to change anything. A help
file would have been nice or online documentation. I unfortunately
couldn't get it to work. So you are saying that if I have my local
calling information setup correctly then Outlook will include the
plus. Then my question is, how can I set it up incorrectly so the
plus is not inserted. I never use the modem in my laptop. Thanks.

Well, it worked for me when I tested it.

Open the phone and modem options and delete as much information about
dialing as you can. See if that helps. You may have to double-click each
phone number to get Outlook to remask it.
