part of table borders not appearing in pdf created from Word doc

Hi All,

I've got a 7 column 3 row table with a nested table within each of the columns in the third row (think flowchart if you're trying to visualise it). I've put borders around the nested tables and have created a pdf from the Word file. When I print this pdf file, part of the left-side borders on certain columns are missing, ie. it's as if a tiny section of the left vertical line isn't showing. Even when viewed in Acrobat Reader, if you zoom in those sections that aren't printing appear to be not as thick as the surrounding borders (even though it's all part of the one border applied to the inner nested table).

I wondered if anyone-else has experienced this problem and whether there's a workaround?

Appreciate any help.

Hello -

I'm afraid I don't have a suggestion to offer on the current problem because
I stopped using nested tables in Word eons ago. They have always been - and
continue to be - a source of irritation & potential corruption. Perhaps
someone else can provide some ideas, but I'd go from a different
direction...

Why not use Insert> Object> Microsoft Organization Chart? In most cases it
will give far better, more stable results with less effort & aggravation. In
fact, I'd prefer to do a custom flowchart in PPt taking advantage of the
Connectors & shapes I prefer, then Grouping the result, copying it & pasting
into the doc. (Keep a copy of the PPt file for future revision.)

Another - and IMHO even better - option is to use a program such as
OmniGraffle to create anything of that nature. You should have a functioning
copy furnished with Tiger which can be upgraded if you need more
sophisticated capability.

Yes, this problem occurs from time to time, depending on the application
used to make the PDF.

You may find that if you change the WIDTH of the borders slightly (by less
than a quarter of a point, usually) the borders will magically become
visible in the PDF.

If the change makes the borders too heavy, reduce their visual impact by
choosing a different colour -- grey instead of black.

The problem is mapping the Microsoft Office line weights to EPS line
weights: they don't match exactly, and vanish entirely under some
circumstances.

Cheers
