password not prompted, unreadable file

I have a Word file that is protected with a password. It
has been opened several times, but now it opens without
prompting the password dialogbox and opens it as read only.

The whole document is encrypted and I cannot seem to get
the password dialogbox in any way...

I open the document in Word 97.

It appears that the document has become corrupted, and the section of the
file that tells Word it's encrypted and passworded has been trashed. I have
seen this happen from time to time (usually due to its being saved directly
to a floppy from Word), and when it happens, I've *never* seen the document
successfully recovered. I hope you have a backup...

Thank you for your answer. I have checked everywhere and
indeed I don't think we will be able to recover it.

We don't have a backup but we made the doc again.

We will back it up next time :)
