Would somebody please tell me where the hell I can get details of the
username and password required to use OE. I assume the privatenews password
has changed but having spoken to the technet team (I am a TN Plus subscriber)
AND technical support, nobody seems to have a clue what I am talking about!

Well this is a newsgroup for Office application problem resolution. OE
usually means Outlook Express, which is not part of Office, but comes
with Internet Explorer. Perhaps if you have set up OE properly with the
ISP info (contact your ISP) it would be working. Otherwise try asking in
the Inetexplorer.outlookexpress group for more direct assistance.

Privatenews is a restricted "authenticated user" Microsoft news server. They
had the SP2 beta groups there AFAIR......the OPs ISP wouldn't have a clue
about it......

The password seems to be the name of the group you are wanting to subscribe
to: have a look here:

The Technet and MSDN newsgroups are actually the public newsgroups. You can
see this in the web interface to the newsgroups. Select one and look at the
link -- you'll see something like
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/co...lt.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.general
That group is actually microsoft.public.windowsxp.general and you can get to
it in OE using this link:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsxp.general.

Just post using the email address you registered when you signed up for your
Technet account, and an MS support person should be along shortly.
