Passwords

My Web hosting provider says that you cannot set a password to a subweb on a
Windows 2000 Server - only Unix. I am sure I have done this before with
another Web site I worked on a couple of years ago running Windows 2000.

Is my provider right or wrong?

You can indeed set a password on a Windows 2000 server. But, only if the
host allows you to do so, and if they give you the permissions to do so, and
they allow you to have subwebs. Many don't.

Otherwise, the host must set the password on the subweb for you.

If you're looking for a password management/protection program, I would
recommend a program called htaccessmanger.

http://htaccess.technotrade.com/

I created a website for a client using FrontPage and created a password
protected area with this program. It works very well with no conflicts. Very
easy to set up.

htaccessmanager will only work on Unix. Mike is having problems with a
Windows server.
