Paste buffer corrupting to RichEditWindow

M

Mark Keates

Quite often when I receive an email in Outlook 2000 SP3
and I'm working in a text editor, such as Textpad, the
paste buffer's contents is replaced by the word 'RichEditWindow'.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a patch available?

This happened before under Win98SE and now under W2K PRO
so I don't think its an OS releated issue, nor is it confined to Textpad.

Thanks,
Mark

I thought I mentioned that - but upon review it wasn't quite complete ;)

The clipboard is replaced at the time an email with an attachement is
'received'
(as I'm connected to a Micorsoft Exchange Server, so more of a 'notified').

Mark

And it doesn't happen on a W2k machine? (your post said "now")

Does it also happen when you start Outlook in safe mode (Start-> Run;"path
to outlook.exe" /safe)
Does it also happen on another Win98SE machine?

Hi Robert,

No, its has continued to happen since moving up to W2K,
we no logner have Win98 machines in the office so I
can't test that. However, another PC with Outlook 2000 SP1
does not exhibit the problem.

Testing the /safe option on my PC does make the problem go
away (the short cut normally has a /recycle option). Is there a
doc/site that lists what the /safe option is doing for you?

Regards,
Mark

Hi,

Many thanks for the help, I think I've narrowed it down to 'Exchange Scan' -
Network Associates 'scanemal.dll' (4.5.1306.0) i.e. E-Mail Scan in VShield
being enabled. I'll could onto them about this, however this is enabled on
other machines here too, so more experimentation is required.

Regards,
Mark

Alight so that makes the OS irrelevant :)

If it works with the /safe switch you should start by disabling all your
addins in Tools-> Options-> tab Other-> button Advanced Options...->
button COM Add-Ins/Add-In Manager to determine whether an add-in is the
cause. In addition to that you can delete the add-in registry cache by
renaming extend.dat to extend.old

Good to hear you've got it narrowed down already. You might want to do a
repair on VShield on the local machine then and reset its configuration.
