paste excel shape as link in powerpoint 2007

I have several hundred msoAutoShapes that are formatted based on data and
thresholds. Those shapes need to be pasted into powerpoint as links so that
they update every month as the data (and formatting) changes. The
PasteSpecial option for a shape on the clipboard does not allow 'Link' to be
chosen. Anyone have a workaround?
