pasting copied items from web

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel When I copy text from the web I can't directly paste it onto a PPT slide without getting an auto symbol that won't let me go further. I have to paste the text to Word first then I can transfer that to my slide. This wasn't the case earlier, but has happened in the last 6 months. What can I do to fix the issue?
Photos will drag over, but not text directly from the web.

What gets placed on the OS X Clipboard is determined by the source material
you're copying from & the program you're using when you copy - in this case,
your browser. The program you're using when you paste determines what it can
use from the content available on the Clipboard.

I'm reasonably certain that nothing has changed in Office/PPT that would
modify its paste method, so the first thing I would suggest is that you make
sure that whatever browser you're using is fully updated... I've seen many
changes take place over the last several years in how both Safari & Firefox
behave. Also, confirm that Office is fully updated as well. There are other
factors involved when copying from web pages which are beyond your control &
not all pages are constructed in the same way. You really can't be sure
exactly 'what' is being copied just based on what you see being displayed.

Rather than simply 'copying', right-click the selected content & use the
alternatives offered in the contextual menu. If the problem persists, try
using Edit> Paste Special - Unformatted Text in PPT.

I have no idea what you mean by "auto symbol", though. The only icon I'm
aware of is the Paste Options button which appears after pasting. It looks
like a Clipboard which you can click to choose from a menu of options
pertinent to the pasted material, but it does nothing to prevent the pasting
from being done. Can you provide more detailed descriptive info about this
symbol, what happens if you click it, etc.?

You are correct in the Paste Options. I was so frustrated I couldn't think what it was called.
I've been using Chrome for my browser lately. As I think about it, that might be the reason for my problem. It was about the time I discovered Chrome that I started having difficulties with the Pasting.
Is there a option that I need to choose to allow me to copy and paste?
Thanks so much for your help. I do appreciate being able to ask for help/advise when I can't get things to work right.

Having never used Chrome - that's Google's new browser, right? - I can't say
for sure, but if it doesn't offer fundamental copy capability I'd be quite
surprised. It you can't find anything in Chrome's Preferences or Help or by
right-clicking selected content I'd suggest you contact Google's support.

As long as Chrome puts usable stuff on the Clipboard PPT or any other app
should be able to use it effectively... Of course there's currently no love
to be lost between Google & MS right now so I'm sure the conspiracy
theorists are likely to say Chrome is purposefully designed to make Office
users think there is something wrong with the MS apps :)
