Pasting graphics in drawing canvas lowers resolution--how to fix?

When I paste a graphic (in this case a plot) into a drawing canvas, the
resolution is seriously lowered.

The same plot can be increased or decreased in size outside the drawing
canvas without any detriment to its quality. However, once it is pasted
inside the drawing canvas, the resolution is immediately lowered.

I am pasting plots inside the canvases so that I can arrange multiple plots
and add captions and arrows, lines, etc that move with the plots easily.

Any suggestions would be useful
