Pasting into Illustrator 8.0 from Word 2002

Mike

I create real estate brochures in Word (it's easier for
me). When the document is complete I select all, copy,
paste the entire thing into Illustrator 8.0, and then save
it as a JPEG. In doing this, I prevent the recipient from
screwing up the document by shifting pictures and copy
around on accident.

Unfortunately, I am no longer able to do this after
installing Word 2002. Illustrator gives me an error and
then shuts down. The error information is not specific
(no indication of a GPF or IPF that I can see). The error
report has been sent to Microsoft. Ive heard nothing back
yet.

I reinstalled Word 97 and tried the procedure again and it
worked fine.

I reinstalled Illustrator and it didn't help.

I can paste images into Illustrator from every other place
than from within Word 2002. The text from my brochures
pastes over from Word 2002 just fine as well, though only
when there is no image accompanying it.

Is there a default setting that I need to change?

Thanks.

Can't Paste from Microsoft Office Application into Illustrator 9.x for Windows

Issue
You can't paste data from a Microsoft Office application into Adobe Illustrator 9.x
for Windows.

Solutions

Do either of the following:

Solution 1
Create a Temp folder at the root of the system drive: In Windows Explorer,
double-click the drive, choose File > New > Folder, type Temp, and then press Enter.

Solution 2
Verify that Windows stores temporary files in a folder that exists on a drive with
sufficient free space:

-- Windows 2000 or NT 4.0:
1. Exit from open applications.
2. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel, and double-click System.
3. Click the Environment tab (Windows NT 4.0), or click the Advanced tab, and then
click Environment Variables (Windows 2000).
4. In the User variables for [user name] section, locate TEMP in the Variable column,
and note the folder listed in the Value column. If the complete path name for the
folder isn't visible, double-click TEMP in the Variable column, and note the folder
name in the Variable Value text box.

Note: If a TEMP variable doesn't exist, contact your system administrator for
assistance.

5. In Windows NT Explorer, verify that the folder you noted in step 4 exists on a
drive that has at least 50 MB of free space:
- If the folder doesn't exist, create it: Right-click the drive, choose New Folder
from the pop-up menu, and type the folder name you noted in step 4 (for example,
Temp).
- If the drive doesn't have enough free space, create additional space by removing
unnecessary files. To determine the amount of free space, right-click the drive, and
choose Properties from the pop-up menu.

-- Windows 98 or 95:
1. Identify a drive that has at least 50 MB of free space: In Windows Explorer,
right-click each installed hard disk, choose Properties from the pop-up menu, and
then note the Free Space field. If no disk has enough space, remove unnecessary files
to create space.
2. Click the disk you identified above, choose File > New > Folder, and then name the
folder "Temp" (without quotation marks).
3. Make a backup copy of the Autoexec.bat file, which is in the root folder (for
example, C:/).
4. Open the original Autoexec.bat file in a text editor that can save in text-only
format (for example, Notepad).
5. Edit the "Set Temp=" line to

Set temp=C:\Temp

(Where "C" is the drive with at least 50 MB of free space.)

Note: If this line doesn't exist, create it using the format above.

6. Save the Autoexec.bat file in text-only format.
7. Restart Windows.

Additional Information

Illustrator creates temporary files when pasting data from Microsoft Office
applications. By default, Illustrator stores these files in a Temp folder at the root
of the system drive. If a Temp folder doesn't exist in that location, or if Windows
is configured to store temporary files in a folder that doesn't exist on a drive with
sufficient space, Illustrator can't paste data from Microsoft Office applications.
