Pasting into Word 2003

When I paste text or graphics into Word 2003 I get a
small tilted red square with a dark border. How do I
replace this strange symbol with the desired copy.

Can not find reference to this strange symbol in Office
2003 documentation.

Hi Don,

This doesn't sound familiar to me at all, and I've been
working with beta builds of Office 2003 for well over a
year...

which view are you in? Are you copying/pasting from any
particular application? Do you see anything unusual if you
go over Edit/Paste Special? Does using any of the formats
offered there give any different result?

Can you copy/paste normally into Powerpoint or Excel?

If you hold down CTRL when you start Word are you then able
to paste "normally"?
