pasting printscreen in Word XP gives large files

I use the printscreen functionality to copy my screen into
word documents. Sometimes this gives automaticly normally
sized documents (say 100 kb) sometimes 1 printscreen gives
a 3-6 MB document. Even using the possibily to make
pictures smaller does not help
What is causing this problem and how can I solve it?
