patch package error message

I cannot remove or reinstall office 2003. I get the following "This patch
package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that
you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package. I have downloaded & installed the
suggested m/soft utility & carried out the instruction from the
"knowledgebase, article id 295823" but still get the same message.
Any help please!

Hi, vambo,

Just so I understand, you ran the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and
removed references to Office 2003 in the registry, then attempted to
re-install Office (in order to then uninstall it)? Remember that you have
to re-install it to "restore" the settings, because the utility doesn't
actually remove programs. Then you should be able to uninstall it cleanly
from the Control Panel.

Hi Susan, sorry i could have been more exact. I ran the utility and followed the MS instructions. After doing this it made no difference. When i go to add/remove progs & try to uninstall or change, it still throws up the same error message. Also it will not allow me to manually install a new version over the top of existing app. In short whatever i try to do remove or install the same error appears.

If you have run the utility to remove Office 2003 registry entries, then
tried to REINSTALL Office (before trying to uninstall) and that didn't work,
I suspect you may need to contact PSS (Microsoft Support).

Hi S, Yahoo, i got it. I percevered with the utility about 3 times and then it allowed me to re-install. All ok now.
