I have a windows XP machine that i am running office 2003
Basic on. I tried to open a .txt file and it said that it
needed to install the converter. I said ok and it began
to run Windows installer and then it said:
"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer patch package."
I did the exact same thing on an identical machine and it
worked just fine. I tried to insert the CD and manually
install the converter and it gave the same error. I have
all administrative priveledges so i know that it is not
that. I tried to email Microsoft but since it is an OEM
version, i could not get their support center to work and
my computer manufacturer has no clue what is wrong. Any
help would be greatly appreciative because i rely on
these .txt files. thanks in advance.
