Patch panel schematic

Hi

I currently have a Cisco 6500 switch in our datacentre. Two of the
modules are relevant; module 1 holds 11 pairs of fibre connections
that connect to a patch panel above the switch, and module 2 holds
about 48 10/100 ports. I'd like to create a schematic (Visio or
similar) illutrasting what ports connect to where on the patch panel.

I've had a look at various stencils, most seem to show the switch as
one unit rather than show its ports. Same for the patch panel. I need
something that can actually differenciate what port is what.

Can anyone help...do such stencils exist?

Many thanks in advance....

The shapes in these stencils tend to be just line drawings of the
module, albeit, high quality line drawings.
What I think you need to do is to add connection points in appropriate
places on the master shapes.

I'm currently involved with a client that is adding c6500 switches to a new
data center and understand the issue. What I use is AltimaTech's NetZoom
product because with quite a few switch's (6506 => 6513) the port counts get
pretty high. What I like about Altima is that when I ran into a vendor port
switch that did not exist in their stencils they added it as part of the
subscription. They are a little pricey (basic network $500USD) but if you
have the need they are the place to go.
What version of visio are you using?

Thanks, I'll check out their website, although it does sound a little
expensive :(

I'm using Visio 2007 btw.

me too. If you take some time with the custom shapes and add real names to
the connection points it becomes fairly easy to automate rack layouts and
connections using something like excel as input against data recordsets.
