PC files to Mac Word v.x - Turkish

I have received two files that I can't read properly - one in Arabic
and one in Turkish. They were created using PC-Word and I am opening
them in Word v.x for Mac.

The Turkish displays certain characters incorrectly. For example, the
"g" character with the rounded overscore.

What settings do I need to change?

(The Arabic I gather is just not going to happen anytime soon. I'm
hoping I can get this into a pdf that I can work with.)

For Turkish:
Have the PC files saved under MS Windows in Rich Text Format (RTF).
Apply http://hyperarchive.lcs.mit.edu/cgi-bin/NewSearch?key=turkish+rtf .
Use anything else but Word X (Even Word 5.1 will do!) to open the
RTF files on the Mac.
