Is there any way to change format of a file from .pdf
to .doc. The problem, I have a 900+ page document from
which I need to extract excerpts. Is this at all possible

Wrong newsgroup... however, the answer is no... if its contents aren't
secured (and I'd bet they are) you can copy and paste into Word... otherwise
print (and again I'd bet you can't), scan and ocr to Word!

If you buy Acrobat Writer, you can open and edit the PDF.

http://www.scansoft.com/pdfconverter/ will do the job if the PDF is not
secured or in image format.

For image format files, you need to OCR the file with a tool like Omnipage,
also from Scansoft.
