Performance problem using VPN

Hi,

I'm running a dual 3 gig server on a T-1 line. We are hosting our websites
from this server and it has very low CPU utilization and no DASD issues. Our
HTML source resides in a folder on the server.

I am accessing this remotely, with a re-mapped drive using VPN. If I
display the folders contents using Microsoft Explorer, I get about a two to
three second response time which is acceptable. When I try to access the
folder via Front Page, I can go out to lunch before it comes back.

Is there a software upgrade or some parameters that needs to be looked at?

I appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks in advance.

You could cut down the latency by any of (at least) 2 methods:

1. If server-based web, expose the website to the Internet and use FrontPage
without the VPN.
2. Publish the remote web site to your local machine, work on it there, and
re-publish it back to the remote machine.

Hi Kevin,

I don't want to maintain the website on my local machine so answer 2 doesn't
work. we've been there, done that.

As to exposing the website to the Internet, it is there as we are hosting
our own code.

How do I use FrontPage without VPN? FrontPage runs on my client machines
and the server is accessed via VPN.

Bottom line is the Windows Explorer works FINE but FrontPage does not. What
is causing this disparity in response times from two Microsoft products
running in the same environment?

TIA
