Permanantly changing settings

Can anybody tell me how I can go about changing specific settings in
Tools>Options in MS Access 2000, so that when I start a new database, the
settings remain. I want it so that all future databases compact on closing
etc..... I don't want to have to change all these settings though each time
I start a new project.
