permanently hiding toolbars?

I know how to hide toolbars for a specific session, but as soon as I close
the program and then get back into it, the old toolbar appears. How can I get
rid of it until I want it to reappear?

What application and version are you talking about... and which toolbar(s)?

In Word, if I turn off the Standard and Formatting toolbars and close Word,
those toolbars remain off when I open Word the next time. Are you saying
this doesn't happen for you?

this is true for Word, PowerPoint and Excel for Office XP. The Review toolbar
keeps comeing back everytime I open word, even thought I have hidden it in
the previous session.
